What I’m Reading In 2019

A new year is upon us! And I couldn’t wait to sink my nose into my reading list. My fellow bookworms this one is for you! Every year, I make a list of books that I absolutely must read. Of course, that list grows throughout the year, but starting off, I have a solid five books or so to get me started. I’m super excited about the books I’ve chosen for 2019. Here’s what I’m reading this year:

1.) Becoming by Michele Obama – From the moment she entered the White House, I have absolutely loved Michelle Obama. Her class, grace, and poise in any given situation sets her apart. When I found out she was writing a book, I about died with excitement so you know this was number one on my list! Hey, First Lady, hey! (Note: I finished the book already and it was EVERYTHING!)

2.) An American Marriage by Tayari Jones – If Auntie Oprah says its good, then it must be good! I wasn’t fully intrigued until I read the description. The main character is a newly married man who is found guilty of a crime he didn’t commit and gets sent to prison. Eventually, he is found innocent, however, while he was away, his wife was taking comfort in another man. Does she fix her marriage? Or do they go their separate ways? I love a good love story, but we’ll see if this is happily-ever-after material.

3.) The Third Wife by Lisa Jewell – I love a book with a bit of suspense and mystery. This book had me hooked from the first chapter! Adrian, the main character, has lost his wife, Maya. Why did she kill herself? Everything is not as it appears to be with Adrian and his five children and two ex-wives. Plot twists had me on the floor! (Yes, I finished this one too!)

4.) PIVOT: The Only Move That Matters Is Your Next One by Jenny Blake – Come through, Jenny, with this book full of nuggets for those seeking advice about career transitions. Doesn’t matter if you are looking to jump into your own business or move up with the company you’re already at. After losing a job I thought I’d be at for quite awhile, this book is right up my alley! (You’ll find out more in my post How Losing My Job Is Helping Me Get My Sh!t Together)

5.) Get Your Sh!t Together by Sarah Knight – Anyone who has been any considerable amount of time with me knows I’m always saying how “I need to get my life together” or “I need to get my sh!t together” or “I really need to get it together!” Well, I found a book for that! Yasss, Sarah, yasss! It’s almost like she knows my life, my struggle, my brain … which is a little scary, but I’ll take it! I’m going to get my sh!t together in 2019! (P.S. This book also has a journal!! Shut up and take my money!)

6.) I Really Didn’t Think This Through by Beth Evans – Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. Okay … a lot of the time things don’t go according to plan. Your ability to learn and joke about mishaps is what carries you through. Embracing your mistakes and your flaws, and laughing at yourself in the process is why this book is on my list. Because sometimes you just need a reminder that no matter what is going on, things will be okay. Plus, a book that makes me laugh is always a keeper!

7.) How To Be A Bawse by Lilly Singh – I read this book last year, but guess what? I’m reading it again in 2019. It was just that good! I like how transparent the author is about the good, the bad, and the ugly. She put in work to get to where she is now. She gives practical advice that worked for her, and her stories are so relatable. Nice refresher for my inner “bawse.
